What do you need to know after a root canal treatment?

After the root canal treatment, there may be a slight sensitivity when chewing or even when touching the respective tooth with the tongue in the next 3-10 days, sensitivity that will decrease from one day to the next. In this case, it is recommended to take an anti-inflammatory for 3-5 days. During and after the completion of the root canal treatment, it is recommended not to chew on the respective side and to avoid hard foods, as there is a risk of a fracture of the remaining walls of the tooth.

fractured tooth

The risk of a corona-radicular fracture is increased in teeth treated with canals/devitals (which no longer have a nerve) and therefore as soon as possible they need to be covered with a crown or other prosthetic work more resistant than a simple filling. Teeth restored by a simple "filling" (coronary filling), especially if it is large, have an increased risk of fracturing. Not infrequently, however, the "filling" option is chosen for financial reasons or because the doctor does not inform the patient correctly. A corona-radicular fracture means the extraction of the tooth, and the root canal treatment performed ends up being a waste of time and money. Thus, AFTER performing the endodontic treatment, we recommend covering the tooth with a dental crown or an onlay/inlay/endocrowan/partial crown as soon as possible (1 week) to protect it in the long term.
